Kolkata: My love for the city

This is again long back when I was a kid and was fortunate to travel to so many places in India. Thanks to my lovely parents. Kolkata as they say is the most important commercial, cultural and educational centre of East India. Traveling in the trams, sitting in the beautiful gardens of Victoria Memorial, crossing the famous Howrah bridge, relishing finest 'rasogollas' known to mankind and a lot more is what I could recall from my last visit to the culturally rich city.

With modernisation it has transformed rapidly and yet its still glamorous and elegant. The city is rich with cultural and archaeological heritage, some well-maintained buildings from the colonial period. Kalighat paintings which reflect a variety of themes including mythology and quotidian life. Beautiful people of a beautiful city.

Talking of Kolkata, how can I miss talking about 'Durga Puja'. They say that the city literally looks like a newly wed, couples dressed in traditional attire. Friends tell me that on the day of 'Ashtami' women dressed in 'lal pad ka saree' (red bordered saree, the traditional Bengali saree) offering prayers to goddess Durga, there isn't a sight beautiful than this.

More stories and experience from India and other beautiful places from the world follow. Stay tuned.

Till then keep traveling, keep exploring and keep sharing for the love of travel.
